HDTVs Face the Same Challenges as Currently Used Televisions

Prior to the innovation of HDTV, wide screen was first introduced for the moviegoers. But some movie producers came to the realization that people who usually prefer to occupy the front seats in the first rows find pleasure and enjoyed a level of participation not likely with that of the conservative movies. Apparently, looking at the screen filled with greater sceneries augments the sense of belongingness or "being there."

In the 1980s, movie producers were offered a high-definition television system which was first developed by Sony and NHK in the late 70s. The system (called NHK Hi-vision) and its variants has the capability of being able to produce images having significantly the same detail as of the 35 mm film.

Here are some of the great features people loved about this new innovation in the entertainment industry:

  • On this system, a scene could be recorded, played and edited right away and then later transferred to film.

  • The new medium also offered a number of possibilities for special effects not possible in conventional film production.

On the other hand something could be considered advantageous for this system, because a lot of the intermediate delays in conventional film production were eliminated.

Due to some of the most favorable changes done with the television, many are looking forward to what would come next. After the introduction of HDTV to the film industry has been realized, interest began to build in developing an HDTV system for commercial broadcasting. But such a system would have approximately doubled the number of vertical lines and horizontal lines as compared to conventional systems.

Now, the most important problem faced with HDTV is exactly the same problem faced with the color TV introduced in 1954. There are about 600 million television sets in the world and approximately 70% of them are color TVs. An important and critical consideration is determined whether the new HDTV standard should be compatible with the existing color TV standards, to succeed the existing standards, or be simultaneously broadcast with the existing norms (with the perceptive that the current standards would be faded out over time).

The basic concept behind high-definition television is actually not to increase the definition per unit area, but rather to increase the percentage of the visual field contained by the image.

The majority of proposed analog and digital HDTV systems are working toward approximately a 100% increase in the number of horizontal and vertical pixels. (Proposals are roughly 1 MB per frame with roughly 1000 lines by 1000 horizontal points). This typically results in a factor of 2-3 improvement in the angle of the vertical and horizontal fields. The majority of HDTV proposals also change the aspect ratio to 16/9 from 4/3 -- making the image more "movie-like".

Some of the noted best HDTV features from which you can try to choose from are the following:

  • 34-inch CRT HDTV. - Even though a tube-based HDTV is much bigger and bulkier than a flat-panel TV, one thing good about it is that it still get a great picture. 34-inch widescreen Sony HDTV is better as compared to any other direct-view television. Other reviews agree that this is the best CRT HDTV on the market, saying it creates a more film-like image than other HDTV’s.

  • 45-inch LCD HDTV.- Like plasma, LCD flat panel TVs is thin and wall-mountable, but it can also have higher resolution. The Sharp Aquos LCD television is one of the few HDTV’s that has 1920 x 1080 resolution, that's enough to display every detail of 1080i high-definition television.

  • 50-inch rear-projection HDTV.-Rear-projection TVs give you a big picture for less cost per pixel than plasma or LCD -- but at 19-inch deep, the Sony isn't as svelte as a wall-mountable plasma or LCD TV. Experts say the Sony XBR TVs have black levels and image quality that rival or exceed that of bulkier, heavier CRT televisions. The 50-inch Sony TV has the highest resolution currently possible for HDTV (1920 x 1080 pixels), so you'll see more image detail than with other TVs.

The best HDTV is just there waiting for you. Enhance your television viewing pleasure with the best HDTV in the market.
